Curling royalty collide today


curling • It’ll be a matchup of men’s curling royalty when Canada’s Glenn Howard resumes his pursuit of a fourth global title against Scotland’s Tom Brewster today in Basel, Switzerlan­d.

Canada or Scotland has won the past seven world men’s championsh­ips, and five of the seven silvers.

Howard, of Coldwater, Ont., and Brewster will duel in this afternoon’s Page 1-2 game after finishing with 10-1 and 8-3 records, respective­ly. The winner will clinch a spot in Sunday’s final; the loser drops into tonight’s semifinal.

Brewster said the Canadians are “not unbeatable.”

In Friday’s lone tiebreaker, Sweden thumped the Kiwis 10-2 in seven ends. Sweden will take on Norway in this morning’s Page 3-4 game.
