CENTRE OF ATTENTION
Although several projects are underway to help revitalize East Village, one in particular is expected to make its mark on the city’s cultural scene.
The National Music Centre is a 135,000-squarefoot development — to be built around the historic King Edward Hotel — that’s expected to be completed in 2014.
It will include a community performance space seating 300 people, a music discovery room with practice studios for musicians, a museum education classroom for visits by school groups, and the Cantos Music Collection of keyboard instruments and other artifacts. Instruments include a piano once used by rock legend Elton John.
