-

One-sided scores are common at the IIHF women’s world championship, but it’s unusual to find Canada on the short end of the count.

The United States shocked Canada by scoring five times in the first 5:32 and went on to win 9-2 in their Group A opener Saturday night at Burlington, Vt. It was the Americans’ most decisive win over Canada in a major competition.

Twins Jocelyne Lamoureux and Monique Lamoureux-kolls paced the Americans. LamoureuxKolls scored three goals while Lamoureux had two goals and an assist.

Hillary Knight had a hat trick and Julie Chu chipped in one goal for the U.S.
