Chiropractor passionate about care for moms and babies

Pregnancy, birth focus of practice

- MARIO TONEGUZZI

When you walk into chiropractor Patricia Hort’s office, you are bound to see many young patients — from babies to toddlers to youth seeking health treatment.

But Dr. For Moms and Lifestyles Wellness Group also offers numerous services for people of all ages including chiropractic, physical therapy, acupuncture, massage therapy, infant massage training, Active Release Technique, reflexology, holistic nutritional consulting, functional fitness education, kinesio taping, custom orthotics and complimentary child care.

“When people ask me what it is that I do, I guess the best way to put it is, I do everything possible so that moms and their babes have the healthiest and safest pregnancy and birth,” says Hort., who founded the practice in 2004.

It has seven health practitioners and six employees in the Provident Professional Building in Calgary’s northwest.

“For me there is no greater reward than having a hand in a baby’s entering the world with grace, respect and love. I will do everything I can to make that happen. I have been told that ‘you can’t change the world.’ I believe this is how you do it and I am giving it my all.”

Hort., with her team of natural health-care providers, caters to the needs of pregnant women, babies and families.

She has a passion for helping mothers have healthy, enjoyable pregnancies. Her philosophy is described in a poster as you walk into her office. “Live Your Best Life Everyday. Integrative Health Care to Help You Do It.”

Hort has been a chiropractor for 15 years. Her emphasis on children, mothers and families came early in her career.

“Just realizing and being at births and seeing what a nice easy birth is like and then witnessing some that were a lot more challenging and knowing that chiropractic can make a difference with that. That’s probably the driving force behind me wanting to be able to participate more and change things for pregnant women and newborns,” Hort says.

“And then working a little bit more with more traumas — birth-related traumas. And just being able to really offer something for women and children and families as more a prevention. A way of keeping strong and healthy versus kind of waiting to get sick and trying to do something at that point.”

She wanted to created a “village” in her practice, saying it takes a village to raise a child but also to support the family.

“That’s why we have the group of people that we do,” she says.
