Arts funding

-

Re: “PCS’ founding fathers back Redford,” Don Braid, Opinion, April 14.

When I hear Danielle Smith speak, I don’t hear any passion for Alberta — I hear passion for power. I feel like she is trying to pull the wool over my eyes. Her promises are all over the political and fiscal maps and seem to come from a place of placation, not experience or leadership. She says what she thinks I want to hear.

What are the Wildrose positions on arts funding and the environment? How will they deliver health care as our population grows and ages? Most of us will not be able to skip the lineups and access their private care. How can the party govern as one unit when they have so many variations of opinion on long settled issues such as abortion in their ranks? How are they going to come up with any kind of policy?

Will Alberta’s wealthy have to step in and prop up arts and non-profit funding after the Wildrose slashes funding and fritters away the income from our natural resources on annual payments designed to buy our vote? Is this what fiscal austerity looks like?

Why should we trust Smith and her team to be wise stewards of our province, when they can’t even clearly define their own policies for us?

When I hear Premier Alison Redford speak, I hear intelligence, compassion and an understanding and appreciation of the issues that we face — and a deepseated passion for Alberta. I trust her to take care of us, and to take care of our prosperous, beautiful province.
