Close race in Fish Creek riding

- KRISTEN ODLAND KODLAND@CALGARYHERALD.COM

Heather Forsyth was elected in the Calgary-fish Creek riding in 1993 and had won every election since as a member of the Progressive Conservative party.

However, this election marked the first time the long-standing incumbent ran as a member of the Wildrose party after she and Rob Anderson crossed the floor to the Wildrose party in January 2010. And at press time, Forsyth was still waiting to see if the people put trust in her for another term despite the change in parties.

The riding was too close to call between her and PC candidate Wendelin Fraser as the two were separated by only a handful of votes.

A former Tory cabinet minister under premier Ralph Klein, Forsyth last won the riding in 2008.

“The PC government has lost its way and has quit listening to the people,” Forsyth had told the Heral d earlier this month. “Albertans want to send a message and deserve to be heard.

“I believe I can best represent that message.”

Meanwhile Fraser, an associate professor who completed two terms as dean at the Mount Royal University’s Bissett School of Business. Earlier this month, Fraser questioned $20,000 payments accepted by Anderson and Forsyth for their new constituency associations when they crossed the floor two years ago.

Fraser, 57, was spending her first election at her party’s campaign office.
