Celebrating

-

Don Braid’s column doesn’t do justice to the surprise PC victory Monday night.

Many of us independently talked, phoned, e-mailed and used social media because we believed this was a pivotal choice for the province.

First is the question how we want to live with each other; Premier Alison Redford was right when she spoke of the growing diversity here — Albertans pride ourselves on being a place of welcome for those who come from wherever, whatever their lifestyles. As well, we know if our economy continues to be successful, there are more jobs than we can do on our own, so our strength for the future is precisely that openness that enables us to celebrate diversity. When Danielle Smith refused to denounce her candidates making offensive statements, she gave that Alberta reputation a black eye.

For the economy, business reputation was a key factor. Environmental issues pose a real challenge nationally and internationally for the oilpatch; this would be a disastrous time to have a premier who is a climate change skeptic.

Redford read the province right — the majority want to see it take its rightful place in Confederation. And Redford has already shown she has the ability to impress those outside the province in Canada and the U.S.

Thank goodness, the PC party has the ability to constantly change to meet the future; now we can all celebrate as we build into that bright future.
