Jansen ready ‘to get cracking’

Sandra Jansen was busy tearing apart her Calgary-North West campaign office on Tuesday.

Fresh off a decisive election win, Jansen’s camp was in good spirits for the cleanup.

“It’s garbage day, so we’re filling up the bins,” she said.

Now the real work begins, says the first-time mla and former Calgary TV journalist.

Jansen said she has a “laundry list of things that need to be accomplished” in her riding.

That list includes building a new recreation centre, playground and schools in the Rocky Ridge and Royal Oak neighbourhoods.

“We want to move forward aggressively,” she said.

Jansen is also ready to tackle an oil well licensed to be built a few hundred metres from a northwest shopping centre.

She said she plans to introduce a private member’s bill after taking office.

In 2011, Jansen worked as a campaign adviser for Alison Redford and, after Redford won the leadership of the Alberta Tory party, as her communications manager.

It gave her, she said, a chance to see the legislature in action.

Back in Calgary, Jansen said she has already heard from parents that it’s “time to get cracking.”

“There’s no time to rest,” she said. “We’ve got stuff to do.”
