As the homicide unit steps up search efforts, family of a calgary father made a tearful plea for clues in his disappearance.

Ryan Lane, 24, has not been seen since February.

On Friday, Lorraine Jackson fought tears while reading a prepared statement to the media at police headquarters.

“I miss Ryan,” Jackson said. “I wish he would come home.”

Investigators are preparing a large search for Lane over the weekend. His family is desperate to find him.

“If he has come to any harm, I hope we can at least find his body and bring him home to us,” Jackson said. “He does not like being alone.”

Lane’s father struggled holding back his emotions while standing by his wife’s side. After drying his eyes, Bruce Lane thanked “everyone for helping us.”

Search and rescue personnel and police and fire department members are set to search for the missing man.

It’s believed he met with foul play.

“This is not a person who has a history of taking lastsecond trips and not having contact with family for this amount of time,” said Staff Sgt. Grant Miller of the homicide unit.

On Sunday, 80 people will search west of Beiseker looking for evidence. Lane has connections in many other communities surrounding Calgary, including Irricana, Airdrie and Cochrane.

Crews will target the area south of Highway 72 between Range Road 263 and Range Road 265 in an attempt to find him.

“Our investigation has taken us to that area,” Miller said.

Lane is described as white, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds and has a slim build. He has brown eyes, brown hair and a tattoo on his right upper arm. His parents say Lane was nicknamed “Jesus” in high school, partly because of his dreadlocks and warm, brown eyes.

Lane was active in the online gaming community and went by the screen name Elemare.

Jackson said her son has a heart of gold that helped him through a “rough patch, broken heart, a bout of loneliness.”

The man was reportedly going through a custody battle prior to his disappearance.

It’s a “situation that is present in this,” Miller said, adding, it’s one of many theories investigators are looking into.

Lane was last seen in the early morning hours of Feb. 7 in the 5200 block of Country Hills Boulevard N.W.

He spent the day before at Chuck E. Cheese’s with his four-year-old daughter.

Two vehicles were spotted in the area at about the same time — a red 1996 Jeep Cherokee and a red 1998 GMC Sierra pickup carrying a load of wood.

Miller said the vehicle owners have been questioned, but he declined to say if they’re suspects in the case.

Police are also investigating a mysterious phone call made to Lane before he went missing.

Male and female suspects have been identified, but Miller said they’ve been unco-operative.

Meanwhile, the Lane family has their own questions.

“How could anybody take him from us?” Jackson said. “How could they hurt him? Why?”

While appreciative of the support, the family is still looking for answers.

“Thank you for doing everything you can to find him,” Jackson said.

“But, please, can you do a little more?”
