Man tossed from truck dies

COllisiOn • A trucker from Calgary was killed after being tossed from his semitraile­r when it crashed with a pickup truck.

RCMP was called about 2:15 p.m. to the intersecti­on of Highway 9 and Highway 566, about 44 kilometres east of Airdrie.

An eastbound pickup truck failed to yield right of way to the semi-trailer, according to RCMP.

The 56-year-old trucker was ejected and died at the scene. Police are not releasing his name, pending next of kin notificati­on.

The 22-year-old male driver of the pickup truck was sent to hospital via STARS Air Ambulance. He was later released without injury.

An 18-year-old woman was also sent to Calgary hospital by ground EMS and treated for her injuries.

Police are currently investigat­ing and charges have not been laid.
