Czechs in command

The Czechs became the first team to reach the quarter-finals of the tourney after midfielder Jiracek’s stylish winner earned his side a 1-0 victory over Poland on Saturday. The latter, the tournament co-host, was knocked out with the defeat. The Czechs finished top of their group and will play the runners-up in Group B.

“We had a poor start but we gradually improved, started to create chances and finally, we deserved to score,” Jiracek said.
