Octogenarian notches hole in one at D’arcy Ranch

-

It seems you’re never too old to celebrate the perfect moment in golf, and 80-year-old Russ Wood of Calgary got to kick up his heels in glee recently when he delivered a 9-iron shot of 132 yards at the 12th hole at D’arcy Ranch for a hole-in-one.

And Charlie Cuffley won’t admit to his age, only that it took him 61 years to bag his first ace with a shot of 228 yards at the ever-trying 14th at Pinebrook.

Others joining the parade of aces this week:

Jolene Wood, no relation to Russ, travelled all the way to the Capitol Hill club in Montgomery, Ala., to master the 136-yard third hole;

Wayne Cawthorn used a 6-iron from 108 yards at the Mccall Lake Par 3 course’s seventh to mark his second ace in eight months, the first coming at the Golf Canada centre last fall.

Other city-owned course aces:

Darcy Horton with an 8-iron from 155 yards at Shaganappi No. 3;

Erich Chin with a 5-iron from 162 yards at McCall Lake No. 17;

Garry Derhak with a 6-iron from 140 yards at Shaganappi No. 8;

Jeff Mooney with a 7-iron from 161 yards at Maple Ridge No. 6;

Vonnie Danyluk with a hybrid from 83 yards at Lakeview No. 4;

Mark Hooper with an 8-iron from 101 yards at McCall Lake Par 3 No. 7.
