Flipping and spinning down Banff’s mountains at 14, Craig Moore had the desire to be a competitive snowboarder, but didn’t realize he was also developing the tools necessary to succeed in the high octane Calgary business environment.

He was successful in his sport as a member of the Canadian National Team, competing at the World Cup level. Even though an injury during the Olympic trials cut short his sporting career, he says developing a balance of risk management, determination and working smarter as a successful extreme athlete honed skills essential for rising to the top in the world of business.

Moore is partner and CEO of King’s Office Moving, a company he launched under the umbrella of King’s Group of Companies that adds a new dimension to King’s current offerings in the moving industry.

The group, under the leadership of president and CEO Dennis O’Neill, includes King’s Transfer Van Lines led by president and CEO Randy Hounjet, that provides local, long distance cross-country and cross-border moving of household goods.

Brenda Mitchell is president and CEO of King’s Global Forwarding that is responsible for all business that goes over water. Recently made a partner in the firm, Mitchell has years of experience in making a complicated process of moving overseas seamless and stress-free.

Her division maintains a network of reliable partners throughout the world who understand the special needs of relocating to unfamiliar territories.

Celtic Relocation Services is the other division, led by O’Neill, which provides special services for household moves. Over any distance, its crews will look after taking down and re-assembling that swing set, draining and plugging the refrigerator back in and setting up the TV again once the move is completed.

Now, with the launch of King’s Office Moving, the group can provide one of the largest one-stop moving solutions in the country.

It was formed by chairman Terry Moore, Craig’s father, who has 36 years of experience in the moving industry. Management has been built up with former Olympic snowboarder Korath Wright as director of business development, and Jessie Gilmour as director of operations. Gilmour relocated here from Toronto, where his industry experience included being responsible for moving operations that took 5,000 employees of RBC from Mississauga into Toronto, a job that stretched over a nine-month period.

Tom Renney holds the title of director of client care, a pivotal role in bridging the reach between sales and operations. Being part of King’s Group means it has the use of extra vehicles if required, its 64,000 square-foot secure, clean and climate controlled pelletized storage facility, and the opportunity for cross-promotion of services that will be of great benefit to clients of all divisions.

Moore’s office moving company, having already completed successful jobs with Starr’s Ambulance, the Bay and North American Construction Group, is anxiously awaiting decisions on a number of other contracts.

October may seem a long way off, but I guess if you are planning a trip to Australia it’s not too early to get organized.

Calgary Economic Development (CED), working in conjunction with Austrade, the states of Queensland, Western Australia, and cities of Brisbane and Perth, has developed a trade mission to match Alberta companies with Australian producers to explore trade opportunities.

It is aimed primarily at companies looking to develop trade relationships in the Australian oil and gas industry.

Paul Paynter, CED business development manager, energy, says Brisbane is experiencing unprecedented resource development with eight coal seam gas and liquefied natural gas projects announced. In Adelaide delegates will learn of the unconventional hydrocarbon potential of South Australia basins and more than 50 different mineral and petroleum products are in commercial production in Western Australia, where projects worth more than $150 billion are currently underway. So pack your bags and be ready to hit Brisbane on Oct. 14.

Brock White Canada has acquired the assets and ongoing business operation of Steels Industrial Products that will operate under the name of Steels — A Division of Brock White Canada.

The integration of Steels and Brock White product lines will provide B.C. and Alberta contractors with a wider range of construction specialty products.
