Safe sinecures

Re: “It’s not about the money,” Dave Budge, Opinion, Oct. 1.

Dave Budge’s column was a pleasant change, but Pollyanna-ish. Clearly, the majority of Albertans “get the government they deserve,” scoundrels and all. For the majority of the governing party’s candidates over the past 20 years, it is all about the money.

I would like to see what they were worth in the competitive private sector before they entered the hallowed halls, compared with what they believed they were entitled to in the sinecure of public office. With a few notable exceptions, the monetary rewards for occupying a government seat are far greater than those they could expect from productively working for a living.
