MEIKA: New evidence is expected

-

Police received an explanation for the burns that they believe has been discounted through the investigation, he said. Andrus said it’s also believed there were other injuries inflicted on Meika during the time she was in the care of her father and stepmother.

He declined to comment on how Meika was hurt as the case remains under investigation.

Police said the new medical evidence has helped provide information on when Meika sustained her injuries and has helped move the investigation forward.

But it hasn’t been easy working on the case, due to the inaccuracy of initial details provided to police, Andrus said.

“It’s very difficult and that’s why these investigations take a long time to resolve. They’re very complex investigations, and we have to ensure we conduct a complete and thorough investigation to the point where we can lay charges.”
