FC Edmonton keeper vies for Cosmo title
Attention, ladies: there’s an attractive bachelor in our midst and he plays for the FC Edmonton soccer team.
Local footie hottie Lance Parker is in the running to become Cosmopolitan magazine’s 2012 Bachelor of the Year. The competition chooses an eligible bachelor from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Parker is representing his home state of Oklahoma, but he lives in Edmonton now, even during the soccer off-season.
“I was kinda shocked, but I was pretty excited about it,” Parker said over the phone Wednesday, explaining how a friend from Los Angeles nominated him for the competition. “I’m pretty excited to have the opportunity to represent my state.”
Looking at the Cosmo profile of the 27-yearold, it’s hard to imagine how the six-foot-four, 200-pound brunette could possibly be single.
In addition to featuring a photo of Parker’s cutesy grin and a set of washboard abs peeking out from beneath an unbuttoned shirt, the Cosmo website lists a number of spicy details about the Oklahoma native. Parker describes himself as “relaxed, hardworking, cultured, confident, and ath- letic.” His ideal date would be cooking a chicken or steak dinner for a lucky gal. And he admits that the way to his heart is through relaxing head massages.
Parker, who has been the keeper with FC Edmonton for the past two seasons, says his professional soccer career makes it hard to find romance, especially since he also works part-time as a model for local agency Mode Models. He has also played soccer with Miami FC and Chivas USA.
“Just moving around so much, with different teams and whatnot, it’s really hard to keep a relationship. I found a girl I really liked when I was playing in L.A., and then a few months later I got moved over to Miami. I tried long distance — I’d never really tried it before — but no matter how hard we tried, it just didn’t work out.”
However, that doesn’t mean he isn’t open to finding love here in Edmonton or elsewhere. “If I find the right girl, I’m willing to make it work.”
The contest hasn’t resulted in too much attention so far, Parker says. No marriage proposals have come his way yet, but he has had a few tweets and emails from women wish- ing him luck. The Cosmopolitan contest invites the public to browse all of the contestants’ “sexy pics” and “revealing interviews,” then vote for their favourite bachelor by Oct. 18 at 4 a.m. MST. The winner, who will be announced that day, will earn the title of Bachelor of the Year and a $10,000 cash prize.
If he wins, Parker says a vacation is definitely in order.
