Calgary students stranded by storm to return home Thursday
STRANDED • A group of Calgary high school students will soon be home safe and sound after being stranded in Washington, D.C., by superstorm Sandy.
Fifteen deaf and hard-of-hearing students from Queen Elizabeth High School were forced to wait out the storm after their flight home was cancelled Monday.
The teens were at Gallaudet University for a conference for the hearing impaired.
On Tuesday afternoon, a Calgary Board of Education spokeswoman said the group will likely be flying home Thursday, once flights resume again on the East Coast.
“They’ve just kept getting delayed,” said spokeswoman Joanne Ramondt. “They’ve always been all right, it’s a pretty low-key event.”
The group is staying at a hotel in Washington as they wait to fly home.
