Turbocharg­ed passenger vehicles accounted for 25 per cent of

global vehicle sales last year, for a total of 20 million vehicles, says Fortune 100 company Honeywell. As an aid to better fuel efficiency, it says, turbos will grow in popularity. By 2017, new turbocharg­ed vehicles will account for 36 million sales.

Combined with Mazda’s i-Eloop brake energy regenerati­on system, i-Stop idle/stop system and Skyactiv powertrain­s, chassis and

body, Mazda says its third-generation European Mazda6 diesel-powered midsize car will deliver up to 3.9 L/100 km. No word yet whether it will be sold over here.
