Turbocharged passenger vehicles accounted for 25 per cent of
global vehicle sales last year, for a total of 20 million vehicles, says Fortune 100 company Honeywell. As an aid to better fuel efficiency, it says, turbos will grow in popularity. By 2017, new turbocharged vehicles will account for 36 million sales.
Combined with Mazda’s i-Eloop brake energy regeneration system, i-Stop idle/stop system and Skyactiv powertrains, chassis and
body, Mazda says its third-generation European Mazda6 diesel-powered midsize car will deliver up to 3.9 L/100 km. No word yet whether it will be sold over here.
