Partying to help Ethiopian children
Live African beats, authentic Ethiopian food and a keynote address by humanitarian rock star Stephen Lewis — Canadian Humanitarian really knows how to party for a purpose.
This year, the Calgary chapter of the organization, which helps kids in Ethiopia through education, stepped outside the cultural box for an amazing Ethiopian-inspired event. More than 300 people arrived to a champagne reception at the Westin ballroom before hitting a silent auction packed with fabulous items, including the chance to sponsor a child or family in Africa.
Emceed by CBC’s Homestretch host Doug Dirks, the event included a dazzling performance by Ethiopian dancers.
As the former UN ambassador and the secretary general’s special envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa, Lewis inspired the crowd with his personal experience in the field. The event raised an incredible $45,000 for orphaned and vulnerable children in Ethiopia.
