July 1, 1923 - December 8, 2012 Sophie Ross passed away peacefully at her home in Bowness, Calgary, AB on December 8, 2012 at the age of 89 years, surrounded by her family. Sophie was born in Arden, MB, and came to Calgary in 1949. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Judy (Gordon) Pidgeon; her son Alex (Sharon) Ross and their children Nicole and Bryce; as well as all her extended family and friends. May 9, 1939 - December 8, 2012 On Saturday, December 8, 2012, Mr. Emile Takla passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 73. Emile lived each day of his remarkable life with integrity, passion and unwavering dedication to God and his family. SRIGLEY, John Raymond

November 23, 1923 – December 8, 2012 Raymond Srigley passed away suddenly on December 8, 2012 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary at the age of 89 years. Ray is survived by his wife Verna of High River; niece Jan (Jacques) Gendron; nephews Len (Maxine) Kraemer, Ross Kraemer, David Kraemer and John (Colette) Kraemer. Ray is also survived by his extended families, the Baceda's of High River, Cory and Cooper Cheshire and the whole Cheshire family of Elnora and Trochu as well as Cathy and Tyler Couey and the whole Couey family of High River. Ray was born in Cardston, Alberta and moved to Aldersyde in 1925 with his parents Janet and Bob who operated the UGG elevators. Ray joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942. Following his time in the Air Force, Ray began working for C.P. Express in Calgary in 1958 until his retirement in 1984. Ray and Verna married in August 31, 1965 and resided in Calgary until moving to High River in 1993 to be closer to the Highwood Golf Course where he was a member since 1970. Ray loved being a member at the Highwood and witnessed many changes, always with a positive attitude. Ray was also a long-time member of the Calgary Curling Club where he was a very avid curler. Ray curled competitiv­ely for many years with long-time friend Scott Ellis and they were very successful. When they moved to High River, Ray continued to curl at the Highwood Curling Club. Special thanks for the quick response of the High River EMS and the outstandin­g attention Ray received at the High River Emergency Department. June 26, 1956 - December 7, 2012 Frank "Ross" Allan passed away after a one year battle with brain cancer on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the age of 56 years. 1922 - 2012 Elaine Douglas passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Lacombe Extended Care Facility on December 7, 2012. Elaine was born in Carbon, AB on April 25, 1922 to Stanley and Ethel Torrance. She was predecease­d by her husband, the love of her life, Bill Douglas, in 1989. GEORGE, Tyler James

December 18, 1981 - December 6, 2012 It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected death of Tyler James George on Thursday, December 6, 2012 in Calgary, AB. Born in Denver and growing up in Calgary, Tyler graduated from Sir Winston Churchill High School and attended Augustana University in Camrose. GOODS, William "Bill" Stephen

April 1, 1942 - December 6, 2012 After a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer, Bill completed his life journey on Thursday, December 6, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 70. Bill was born April 1, 1942 in Drumheller, Alberta to Stephen William Goods and Esther May Studer. On April 19, 1964, Bill married his soul-mate Dian Kay Bennett in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Bill will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 48 years Dian; son Bill Jr., daughters Katheryn Goods and Kim Howard (Brian), grandchild­ren Brett and Chase Goods, Brittany Goods and Cody Brown, Gracie and Brooke Howard. He is also survived by siblings Connie (Ray) Cowley, Margaret (Bob) Kinvig, Elaine (Rodney) Fatteicher, brother Robert Goods and sisterin-law Arlene Goods of Calgary, brother-inlaw Brian Bennett (Trish) and sister in-law Mary Ann Bennett of Tulsa, Oklahoma and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predecease­d by his parents and brother-inlaw Dr. Larry Bennett. Being a man of many talents, Bill was an educator, leader, athlete, and businessma­n. He loved sports both as an active participan­t and fan. Bill starred on championsh­ip football teams at Queen Elizabeth High School, Mount Royal Junior College and the University of Tulsa. Bill was honored by being inducted into the University of Tulsa Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1964 Blue Bonnett Bowl championsh­ip team. His football career continued in the Canadian Football League where he played with the Calgary Stampeders, Saskatchew­an Rough Riders and Edmonton Eskimos. Bill's strong interperso­nal skills served him well as a teacher with the Calgary Board of Education and in business where he worked his way up from a salesman to senior management. He retired in 1993 as VP of Sales with Motorola Canada Limited. Following his retirement, Bill remained active in the community in numerous volunteer endeavors such as Chairman of the Calgary Stampeder Alumni Charitable Foundation and Chairman of the Calgary Stampeder Alumni Golf tournament, which raised over $500,000 for the benefit of Minor Football in Southern Alberta. He volunteere­d in the GW Skene School Grandparen­t Program for nine years where he was affectiona­tely known as Pa Goods. Bill was a family man who put his family first and was extremely proud of all his children and grandchild­ren. He was their biggest fan and cheerleade­r. Bill will be deeply missed and left our world a better place. GRISDALE, John Edward (Ted)

November 21, 1932 - December 6, 2012 Ted Grisdale, beloved husband of Margaret Gri s dale of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the age of 80 years. Ted is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years and his four sons and their families which made him extremely proud; John (Nancy), Dan (Tamara), Rob (Kerri), and Brent ( Ti f f any) i ncl uding el even grandchild­ren and two great-grandchild­ren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Audrey Grisdale, his sisters Marilyn Trigg and Neila (Don) Russell, and Victoria (Tony) Stubbs. He was predecease­d by his parents Jack and Audrey Grisdale, his brother Gerry Grisdale, and his brothers-in-law Richard Trigg and Lorne Indridason. Ted was also very fond of his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends enjoying their company at all of the family events over his lifetime. Ted was very devoted to his wife and family. He was tremendous­ly active in the communitie­s in which he lived and was well known for his selfless volunteer work with organizati­ons that he and his family were involved. This included: coaching hockey and girls softball in the communitie­s he lived, supporting the developmen­t of the Junior "A" Royals/ Mustang's hockey team, a founding director for "Canada's challenge for the America's Cup", various board positions in the Willow Park/Maple Ridge Community Associatio­n, The 400 Club, the University of Calgary Diving Club, Alberta Section of the Canadian Amateur Diving Associatio­n and Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club. He also volunteere­d with The Calgary Stampede, Foothills Academy, and the Kinsmen Club. The family would like to thank all his doctors and many caregivers for their excellent care during his illness. KNECHT, Donald Andrew

March, 29, 1926 - December 6, 2012 Following a stroke, Donald Knecht passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the age of 86 years. Donald Andrew Knecht was born March 29, 1926 to Otto and Ellen Knecht of Mayton, Alberta. He was the oldest of six children. After attending school in Torrington and Olds, Don joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944. When the war ended, he worked in Calgary then returned to farming with his Dad near Olds. In 1948, Don married Joyce Richards of Olds and in 1950 their daughter, Patsy Lee was born. He and his Dad retired from farming in 1962. Don subsequent­ly attended SAIT and qualified as a journeyman Electricia­n. After gaining experience with other electrical companies, Don was employed as the maintenanc­e electricia­n for the Highlander and Carriage House hotels for twenty-five years. He eventually formed his own company with wife Joyce, retiring at the age of seventy. Don was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion 105 Olds, the Olds Stock Car Club and The Calgary Sports Car Club. He held a private pilot license, was active on the boards of the condominiu­ms in which he and Joyce lived, and until recently walked two and a half miles a day. Don i s survived by hi s wife of sixty-four years, Joyce Knecht of Calgary; grandchild­ren, Andrew Moreau of Duncan, B.C., Kristina (Brien) Montgomery, and Laura Moreau (Ryan Patterson) of Victoria, B.C.; son-in-law Leo (Lyne) Moreau of Duncan, B.C.; five great-grandchild­ren and two stepgreat-grandchild­ren; sisters Margaret Rosehill of Olds and Beth Dorsey of Calgary; brothers Robert (Ileen) Knecht and Norman (Pat) Knecht of Calgary; and sister-in-law Joy Knecht of Revelstoke, B.C. LAFFERTY, Linda Christine

September 20, 1963 - December 6, 2012 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our loving wife and caring mother, Linda Christine Lafferty, on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the age of 49 years. Linda was born on September 20, 1963 in Calgary, and was the youngest of three children of Milan and Evelyn Danco. She spent her school years in Nelson, B.C. and graduated from L.V. Rogers High School in 1981. Linda returned to Calgary where she met and married the love of her life, Roger Lafferty, on August 22, 1987 and raised four children: Tara, Ryley, Shaye and Garrett. She spent many years working at Canadian Western Natural Gas, The City of Calgary, and CMHC in Accounting and Finance. Linda completed her Bachelor of Arts and Science degree at Athabasca University in 2008, and was pursuing her CGA designatio­n. While Li nda achieved great s uccess i n her profession­al life, she truly was the heart of her home and her greatest joy and accomplish­ment was her family. She was unselfish with her time, willing to drop whatever she was doing just to help in any way she could. She spent many late nights reading and editing her children's homework and preparing a home-cooked meal for the next day. Linda loved to host family events, no matter what the occasion – Christmas, Easter, birthdays, Grey Cup parties, and especially Sunday night dinners – and always worked very hard to make Christmase­s and birthdays very special. Linda cooked the best meals, and you could never leave without her sending you home with plenty of leftovers. Linda and her family loved to take trips, some of which included Disneyland and Disney World, Sedona, Las Vegas, Mexico, Hawaii, countless trips to B.C., and the western United States. She also had a strong faith and could be found at St. Patrick's Parish on Sundays over the past twenty years. Linda volunteere­d her time as a Zone Captain for the Diabetes Associatio­n, and various church ministries. Linda's faith and strength helped her overcome many challengin­g times in her life. The way she lived her life and the incredible qualities that she held made everyone want to be around her. Linda will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, coworkers and faith community. "Archie"

November 25, 1918 - December 4, 2012 Archie McCorquoda­le of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the age of 94 years. Born in Deepdale, MB, Archie attended school, and was wise beyond his years. He lived in Victoria, B.C., Penticton, B.C., Saskatoon, SK, Vancouver, B.C. and settled in Calgary, AB in 1960. In 1941 Archie married his loving wife, Elizabeth. Archie had various jobs in ship yards, as a mill worker, in propane sales, and garage helper, before finding his career. Archie became the regional manager for the Maytag Company, where he worked all of western Canada for thirty years before retiring in 1983. Archie was an avid golfer. Golf was a serious pastime for him, and he faithfully followed the PGA. He loved to support the Calgary Flames, but was knowledgea­ble about most profession­al sports teams. In the past year Archie learned to bowl. He loved to travel and visit family dispersed throughout western Canada. Archie was devoted to his family in all forms. You could say, "He always had our backs." Spirituall­y he was a youngster; his son's friends were often his friends as well. Archie could befriend anyone he wanted to know. Archie is survived by his son Brent; brother Riley McCorquoda­le of White Rock, B.C.; sisters-in-law, Irene (Rocky) Kwamsoos, Kelowna, B.C., Bonnie Gilmour, Saskatoon, SK and Agnes McCorquoda­le; brothers-in-law Stuart (Joyce) Gilmour and Bernard Gilmour; as well as many dear friends. April 1, 1918 - December 4, 2012 Kathleen passed away peacefully in Calgary on December 4, 2012 at the age of 94. She was born in Walsall, England. As a child, Kathleen demonstrat­ed her life-long love of animals by spending her pocket money on all sorts of pets, much to the constant amazement (and amusement) of her parents. During WWII, Kathleen worked in the British Steel Ministry. During this time, she met her future husband, Graham Noble, who was a Canadian serving in the RAF. After the war, she worked at the British embassy in Prague. Kathleen moved to Vancouver in 1948 and married Graham Noble. In 2002, after Graham's passing, she moved to Calgary. Kathleen was predecease­d by her parents, her brother Richard Tysall, and her husband Graham. She is survived by her son Brian (Lorraine) and several nieces and nephews. Kathleen requested that no formal Funeral Service be held. January 29, 1929 - December 8, 2012 Benito Piscopo of Calgary passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the age of 83 years. Benito is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Sascha and Tanya Piscopo; two daughters Pamela Piscopo and Patricia Piscopo; seven grandchild­ren, Shane, Nadine, Keely, Jennifer, Daniel, Jesse and Damian; two great-grandchild­ren Chante´ and Kiana Charlene; and niece Roswita. Benito was predecease­d by his beloved wife Dorothea in 2009 and his sister Carmen. A Celebratio­n of Benito's Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. Forward condolence­s through www.mcinnisand­holloway.com.
