Re: “EU ministers threaten action against Israel,” Dec. 11.

The EU should be reminded that the annihilation of a Jewish population equal to that of the entire state of Israel took place in their own back yard and they all stood by and let it happen.

The EU should also be reminded that the Palestinian Authority is the PLO who were responsible for the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre that launched the new era of international terrorism — and that it was Israel who brought the perpetrators to justice. The EU could not get their act together by allowing the negotiations and the failed attempt at rescue that led to the assassination of the nine remaining Israeli athlete hostages.

The EU should also be reminded of the Air France hijacking by the same PLO in 1976 and the successful Israeli rescue at the Entebbe airport, with the EU being let off the hook with the release of their citizens who were not Jewish — leaving it up to Israel to rescue EU Jewish citizens.

Most importantly, the EU should be reminded they voted in favour of Israel’s statehood as well as that of the Palestinians, and while Israel met all the terms and conditions required for statehood, the Palestinians still have to produce the required constitution that will allow statehood under UN Resolution 181.

Until this is done, there is no Palestinian state. The EU should be reminded that Israel, as a sovereign state, has every right to build housing wherever it wants within its borders.
