Kardashian curse clobbering Kanye?
Ubiquitous reality star stealing singer’s thunder
Is the curse of Kim Kardashian sending rapper Kanye West’s career south? “His personal life is overpowering his music,” an industry source told the New York Daily News. “Every time he plays, people are wondering if Kim is going to be there. It’s not a good thing for him, especially if he wants to be taken seriously.”
Once a feature on the pages of GQ and VMAN, West’s face is now plastered all over whatever his girlfriend Kardashian is promoting.
West has carved out a successful career despite interrupting Taylor Swift at the VMAs and insulting the U.S. President dur- ing a hurricane Katrina telethon, and his album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
But the News says West’s popularity is becoming tarred with too many appearances on Keeping Up With The Kardashians and in the pages of celebrity weeklies.
West has also declined several lucrative opportunities to host New Year’s Eve parties in Miami and Las Vegas, which were conditional on him bringing Kardashian.
West was offended by the offers, the paper said.
The latest sign the public is turning against West was at the 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert, when several people in the crowd walked out during his performance.
West plans on shaking things up, the News reported. “He has been meeting with top-level music executives seeking advice. He’s not happy with the direction things have been going.”
