Ke$ha’s single dies young

-

U.S. radio stations have stopped airing singer Ke$ha’s latest teen anthem, Die Young, after the Sandy Hook school massacre in Connecticut.

Gossip website TMZ says Die Young peaked at number three on radio playlists and reached more than 167 million listeners before the tragedy Friday morning.

But even before the song was put on ice it was in free fall among its target demographic. Mediabase — a tracker of radio play — says the single lost 19 million listeners by Monday.

Ke$ha tweeted about the Newtown, Conn., massacre on Monday: “Its beyond words what has happened.”

The shootings sent the world into mourning after 20 young children and six adults were murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary by gunman Adam Lanza. A music industry insider told TMZ the last time a song went into free fall was when country girls the Dixie Chicks lambasted former president George W. Bush.
