Executive stays with Glencore

Glencore Internatio­nal, which completed its $6.1-billion acquisitio­n of Viterra Inc. this week, has appointed Fran Malecha, former chief operating officer of Viterra, as director of agricultur­al products for North America, with responsibi­lity for all North American operations.

He will be based in Regina, which becomes headquarte­rs for Glencore’s North American agricultur­al products business.

A company spokesman also confirmed the company would continue to operate under the Viterra name.

Malecha has been with Viterra for 12 years Viterra was formed in 2007 following the takeover of Agricore United by the Saskatchew­an Wheat Pool for $1.8 billion.

In March, Switzerlan­dbased Glencore offered $16.25 a share for Viterra. The deal was finally approved on Dec. 7.
