Plenty of last-minute ‘get-fit’ gift ideas

Gift of good health is becoming easier to package these days

- JARI LOVE

It’s less than week until the big day and, if you are like me, you’re still scratching your head wondering what to get for people on your Christmas list.

One of the greatest gifts you can give is the gift of health. Not sure how to wrap that up a nice, Christmas package? There are plenty of ways for all budgets to give the gift that keeps on giving.

A lot of us don’t make time for ourselves or simply don’t want to spend money on a gym membership or fitness equipment. However, if someone else buys it for us, we feel obligated to use it.

If you are on a budget, there are plenty of things for $50 or less, such as skipping ropes, resistance bands, exercise balls, pull-up bars and push-up handles. All can be used at home and don’t require much space.

Fitness DVDs are another idea. There are thousands to choose from, and most cost less than $20. Check out collagevideo.com.

Looking to spend a little more? If your budget allows you to go over $50 then here’s an idea: consider a good pair of running shoes. A quality pair typically costs $150 or less, depending on the brand name and the store. Having a good pair of shoes really makes a difference in your workout and also helps prevent injuries. Another good gift idea is a workout pass to a

nearby fit- ness facility. This allows the recipient to try out the facility, see how they like it and then decide for themselves if they want to carry on.

As an example, Talisman Centre is offering 12 workouts for the price of 10. You can get up to five of these passes that can be used at any time. For details, call 403-2338393.

If you are looking for a quick stocking-stuffer, visit one of the Fitness Plus locations for a free one-month gift card that grants the recipient full access to both facilities. For details, check out fitnesspluscalgary.ca.

If you’re looking to splurge this year, then the sky is the limit: treadmills, stair climbers, ellipticals, stationary bikes and rowing machines.

For new equipment, try Fitness Equipment Calgary or Apple Fitness Store. Used equipment is available from Arron Young at Beyond the Basics Fitness Equipment Services.
