Punish irresponsible dog owners, but please don’t single out the breed
Re: “Charges pending in deadly dogfight,” Jan. 3.
We are the happy owners of two part pit bull dogs. We have owned them since they were eight weeks old, and we met both their human and canine parents.
These dogs love nothing more than a cuddle with their owners and are full members of our family. When we take them to an off-leash area, we find the small yappy dogs tend to be aggressive. Our dogs just want to socialize.
We have had the privilege of touring Best of a few vaguely worded facts mixed in with some lazy implications and distortions. She accuses the federal government of infantilizing native people, but then proceeds to offer an absurdly simplistic and condescending view of aboriginal culture.
The truth is that Canada’s First Nations aim for self-governance, control over their own land and resources, and a peaceful, mutually beneficial coexistence with the rest of Canada. That goal won’t be reached if no one speaks up.
Reid Blakley, Calgary Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah, several times. This is where many of Michael Vick’s dogs came to be rehabilitated. These so-called Vicktory dogs have now mostly been adopted out and two are certified as therapy dogs.
It is short-sighted to discriminate against one breed. Irresponsible owners should be punished, not the dogs. Who rules the canine roost in our house? Our 18-pound bichon-shih tzu.
