Well-designed living spaces make a home a pleasure to spend time in.

Arcuri Homes’ Beringer show home in Evansview, in the city’s northwest, illustrates just how livable 2,423 square feet can be.

Starting at the top, the upper floor of this two-storey estate home offers a large master bedroom with his and her sides to the master ensuite.

Her side’s walk-in closet has a vanity to one side and a built-in makeup table to the other. His side has a matching vanity just outside his walk-in closet, along with soaker tub and glass-in shower. A skylight through a tall shaft from the peaked roof provides offset natural daylight to the master ensuite. The master bedroom opens onto the bonus room through a set of double doors. It’s a large room, with large windows offering a view overlooking Symons Valley.

The staircase that sits between the bonus room and the loft is flanked with stub walls so the view is unhampered between the two areas. A tray ceiling above the stairwell visually separates the space.

Past the loft, set out as built-in desks for homework, is a short hallway with the upstairs laundry room to one corner, the two secondary bedrooms and the main bathroom.

The bathroom has a dual vanity and a pocket door separating the sinks from the bath, shower and toilet.

From the second floor, the wide stairs leading to the main floor offer a view of the great room to the left, the kitchen and dining area ahead and to the left, and a built-in desk for media straight ahead.

The great room has a horizontal fireplace with tile surround and a gorgeous view over the back deck toward Symons Valley.

Two square pillars separate the kitchen from the great room, while providing open access.

The kitchen is a pleasure to stand in. It has two-tone cabinets, with white cupboards on the walls and dark brown wood facing the island’s storage.

Stainless steel appliances and a stainless steel chimneystyle hood fan accent the room. Tiny black, grey and white tiles behind the stove and range hood stand out against the plain light glass tile on the rest of the back splash.

The central, granite-topped island provides plenty of workspace. A peninsula with a dual stainless steel undermount sink and dish washer provides a separation between the kitchen and dining nook.

The extended counter on the peninsula offers casual seating for three.

The dining nook has room for a formal table and seating for at least six, and access through a door onto the back deck.

From the kitchen, a walkthrough pantry leads to the mud room, with built-in bench and lockers for orgniz- ing outdoor wear after entering from the double, front-attached garage.

The mudroom, which has a powder room and a closet, leads to the front foyer with a further closet.

The basement offers space for a large rec room, a bedroom and four-piece bathroom.
