Krzysztof Palka has a passion for creating results that deliver success.

He founded Pump WELL, a Calgary-based oilfield services technology company, in 2004 and spent the first two years mostly in research, trying to validate some initial assumptions.

Today, the company and its 30 employees provides clients across four Western provinces with engineering services and technology to improve the efficiency and production of oil wells.

“Our understanding is that every well should be profitable ... It’s very important to relentlessly pursue that effectiveness,” says Palka.

Innovation and technology, coupled with experience and service shape the company’s culture, he said.

“For us, we live and die with our results. We live and die by the service we provide,” he says.

Palka says the company has developed unique integrated solutions for applying expert system engineering analysis to rod pumping oil wells. This includes the application of advanced mathematical algorithms, scientific computing, automation and communication systems that allows it to remotely analyze and optimize its clients’ wells through a secure Internet connection.

It also provides service to wells with gas engines or electric motor drives.

Palka, who says he was never drawn to the downtown culture, moved his company about three months ago into a new space of 20,000 square feet in northeast Calgary. The added space has allowed Pump WELL to add some unique amenities for its employees, including a putting green, a badminton court, a foosball table, a pingpong table. He has plans for the addition of a fitness centre and a climbing wall in the future.

“The space is very open. It reflects who we are. We’re very open. And it encourages teamwork,” says Palka.

As you enter the northeast office, a picture of a rowing team is hanging on a wall.

“We see our business like a big team,” explains Palka. “There’s a lot of good people out there but there’s very few right people for any particular business.

“We want to make sure that everyone knows where the boat is going. That everybody understands that they will be part of a team.”
