5 THINGS TO WATCH

- KRISTEN ODLAND, CALGARY HERALD

1. HOME COOKING — The Hitmen have a prime opportunity to clinch this first-round series, and can do it in front of their Scotiabank Saddledome crowd. They know it. Gaining momentum in the game’s early goings — and then hanging onto it — will be key. 2. SLICK SYLVESTER — The Calgary Hitmen captain was dubbed March’s WHL player of the month on Tuesday. With eight goals and 10 assists in the month, it’s no surprise. Through the first four games of playoffs, Sylvester has three goals, an assist, and is a plus-three. Definitely a player to watch throughout the post-season. It’s the 20-year-old’s last in the WHL, too, so he’s trying to make every shift count. 3. ANOTHER OVERTIME? — Three of the four matches have gone into overtime. In the Calgary’s 18-year franchise history, the Hitmen have played two OT games in a single playoff series nine times. 4. ANGER MANAGEMENT — The final goal in Tuesday’s 1-0 overtime loss to the Hitmen caused tempers to flare on the Swift Current bench. Although referees counted the goal, Calgary veteran Brooks Macek had appeared to hand-pass the puck which bounced off Broncos goalie Eetu Laurikainen and out to Victor Rask who tapped it in. The visitors will, no doubt, use that as motivation in Game 5. 5. ELIMINATION STATION — It’s no secret. The Broncos need to win Game 5 to extend their playoff lives. Plain and simple. They haven’t won in the Saddledome this series and looked fairly shell-shocked in Games 1 and 2 to open the series. Besides captain Adam Lowry and centre Colby Cave, they’ll need some production throughout their lineup to make this happen. They’ll also need a top-notch performance from Eetu Laurikainen who has a 2.83 goals against average and a 0.910 save percentage. His best game, by far, was Game 3’s 3-2 overtime win at Swift Current on Monday. Meanwhile, Hitmen goalie Chris Driedger has a 0.935 save percentage and 1.98 goals against average.
