Cougars snare new coach for women’s basketball

-

The Mount Royal Cougars have attracted a top coach from Atlantic Canada to run their women’s basketball program next season.

Len Harvey, who was most recently the assistant coach of the 2013 Atlantic University Sport champion Cape Breton Capers, will lead the local university’s women’s program, the school announced in a news release Tuesday.

“We’re extremely happy to be bringing Len on board,” said athletics director Karla Karch in a statement. “It was an extensive search and we’re confident we found the right person for the job. Len brings a wealth of experience at all levels of basketball.

“The choice was an easy one for us.”

Harvey will make the move across the country alongside his wife, Kristen, and sixmonth-old son.

“What drew me in right away were the people,” said the coach in a statement. “Having the right team on board, who want to win, and develop well rounded student-athletes was extremely important.

“I’m really excited about coming to MRU.”
