Canada captain Christine Sinclair has been awarded the first National Women’s Soccer League’s player of the month award.

The Portland Thorns forward scored two goals and had an assist over three games to help her team post a 2-0-1 record for the month. Sinclair, 29, converted from the penalty spot to score the first goal of the season for the Thorns in a 1-1 draw with Kansas City in the inaugural NWSL game April 13.

The Burnaby, B.C., native assisted on forward Alex Morgan’s goal in a 2-1 win for Portland against Seattle Reign FC in the Thorns’ home-opener April 21. Sinclair scored her team’s second goal in the Thorns’ next game.
