Bilson blasts Bling Ring
Former O.C. star Rachel Bilson is slamming The Bling Ring movie as “weird,” “glorifying” and “upsetting.”
The actress told British Cosmopolitan the movie inspired by real events that stars Emma Watson struck too close to home for her liking.
The Sofia Coppola movie is about the teen crime ring that pillaged the palaces of young Hollywood’s glitterati, stealing jewels, electronics, clothes, money and anything else that wasn’t tied down. Bilson was one of the gang’s victims.
“I thought it was weird to glorify something that was so upsetting for a lot people,” Bilson said. “It’s important to detach from material things, but the special, personal things I lost are hard to forget.”
Bilson has admitted she lost thousands of dollars in clothing, jewelry and priceless possessions — including her mother’s engagement ring.
But Bilson, 31, is quick to confess her own hellraising stupidity during the halcyon days of The O.C. She shot to fame as Summer Roberts in the sun-kissed teen soap in 2003 but now says she would have done things differently.
She said: “I didn’t have any idea how much The O.C. would change my life. I thought I knew everything, but now I look back and think, ‘You were a dumb ass! What was your problem?’”
Bilson has been dating Canadian Star Wars heartthrob Hayden Christensen for several years since they met while filming Jumper. She hinted the pair — who often stay at his farmhouse north of Toronto — are ready to settle down.
Bilson said: “Thirty is a whole different thing: You can slow down and focus on family. Starting a family one day is definitely something I look forward to.
“My parents’ divorce didn’t make me cynical about love and marriage,” she said. “I’ve always been a big romantic, and I look forward to all those things. I’ve been in a relationship for six years, and I’m happy.
“To have a partner is one of the greatest things,” Bilson said. “I’ve always been a fan of love … I’m an emotional person. I go with my heart before my head every time.”
