Two vehicles were seen leaving together from a Denny’s restaurant parking lot in northeast Calgary on Tuesday night before shots were fired from one vehicle at another, say police.

But after a day of investigating, police still have no victims or suspects in the case, which does not appear to be a random attack.

Officers were first called to the 5200 block of 4th Street N.E. shortly after 10 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls of shots being fired.

When they arrived, they discovered an abandoned Toyota Celica dotted with bullet holes.

Two people were reportedly spotted leaving the scene before police arrived.

Police said the Celica had been seen earlier that night leaving the parking lot of the Denny’s restaurant on McKnight Boulevard N.E. with a black Toyota Tundra truck.

Shots were fired from the truck, which then fled south on Edmonton Trail and then west on McKnight Boulevard.

“We can’t comment on the nature of that connection but it certainly appeared like the vehicles were together prior (to the shooting),” said Staff Sgt. Harv Davies.

It’s believed there were two males in each vehicle. By the time officers arrived, there was no one at the scene, he said.

Police have no information on injuries, suspects or motive.

“It did happen in a residential area. That’s obviously a significant concern for public safety when shots are fired on a fairly busy street.”

Cain urged anyone with information to call police.

Officers have checked hospitals, which have not turned up any parties involved.

They are scouring the scene for evidence, interviewing witnesses and looking for any available surveillance footage in the area.
