Man found guilty of repeatedly attacking dog

OTTAWA • A Cornwall, Ont., man has been found guilty of attacking a dog.

Stepha Franklin, 23, was convicted of animal cruelty charges after court heard he repeatedly punched a dog in a car parked at an Ottawa mall back in February.

Mercedes, a boxer-shepherd that belonged to the man’s thengirlfr­iend, had been snacking on Caribbean food left in the car.

Testimony from an eyewitness and the man’s ex-girlfriend were heard by the judge.

Franklin has previous conviction­s for assault — one involving his ex and another involving a man, which he is currently serving time for.

He is to be sentenced on Friday.
