TOURNAMENT • Evan Holmes continued his fine play at the Sun Life Financial Alberta Men’s Amateur Championship on Wednesday.

The Earl Grey Golf and Country Club member shot a 3-under 69 just one day after shooting 68 to extend his lead at the event being played at the Sundre Golf Club.

He now sits at 7-under with two rounds to be played, and is four shots ahead of Banff Springs’ Jack Wood (3-under).

Holmes got off to a rough start, shooting a 1-over 37 on the front on Wednesday before roaring back on the back nine with four birdies to maintain his spot atop the leaderboard.

Jesse Galvon (Heritage Pointe) shot the day’s best round, firing a 5-under 67 to place himself alone in third place, five shots back of Holmes.

Dustin Yeager (a public player), who sat tied with Holmes after Day 1, struggled with a 3-over 75 on Day 2, and is now tied for fourth and six shots back of the lead.

Defending champion Riley Fleming (Collicutt Siding) also had trouble scoring well on Wednesday, posting a round of 76 to now sit at a combined 4-over for the event.
