ALBERTA ROCK STARS NICKELBACK TO PLAY FLOOD AID CONCERT

- MIKE BELL

The star-studded Alberta Flood Aid concert just got a little more Alberta and a whole lot more star-studded.

On Friday, organizers confirmed that Hanna rock act Nickelback have joined the Aug. 15 benefit concert at McMahon Stadium.

The veteran band, who’ve found international fame over the past decade-anda-half thanks to hits such as How You Remind Me, Someday and Something In Your Mouth, are arguably the biggest act to lend their name to the charity concert.

They’re currently in the midst of a hiatus during which frontman Chad Kroeger married pop star Avril Lavigne.

Nickelback joins other local performers lending their time and talents to the event such as Jann Arden, Corb Lund and Loverboy.

It also includes a lineup of fellow Canadian superstars including iconic rocker Randy Bachman, West Coast musician Matthew Good, Prairie boys The Sheepdogs, alt country band The Sadies, Scottish country sensation Johnny Reid and southern Albertabased songwriting icon Ian Tyson. Comedian and Corner Gas star Brent Butt has also been tapped as the host for the event.

All of the proceeds from Alberta Flood Aid will go to the Calgary Foundation’s Flood Rebuilding Fund, which has been set up to support the long-term rebuilding efforts in the communities the most hardest hit by the floods, such as High River.

Tickets for the concert, which will run from 6 to 10 p.m., went on sale Friday morning at 10 a.m. from ticketmaster.ca at a cost of $30 for the majority of the seats, with a smaller number being sold at $50 and $100, and the ticket seller waiving its normal service fees for the event.

According to sources, 15,000 tickets were sold in the first hour.
