Water Festival features plenty of family fun
The Town of Chestermere is promising families a day at the lake they will not soon forget.
The growing community along the Trans-Canada Highway, just east of Calgary, is holding its annual Water Festival on Saturday, with popular events as a wakeboarding competition, car show, artisan market and free lake tours.
“Chestermere’s Water Festival takes one of those perfect days you can spend at the lake and ramps it up,” says Town of Chestermere events co-ordinator Nancie Huneault.
Back for the 2013 edition will be the Hyperactive Watersports Competition, Car Nutz Club Annual Classic Car Show, YELL’s rubber duck race, beer gardens and more.
Families with children can take advantage of the Epcor Kids Zone in John Peake Park, which will feature games, face-painting and entertainment.
Adults will also have the chance to get involved and cool off during the Redneck Regatta or the new Water Festival Wipe out.
The Wipe out, which starts at 2 p.m., will see participants run, bounce or splash their way through a floating obstacle course on Chestermere Lake made of trampolines, slides and paddleboards.
New to this year’s festival is Salsa at the Lake.
“Those who are inspired by the La Rumba Cuban Dance School’s perfor- mance in the afternoon will have the chance to learn how to salsa at the evening lessons,” says Huneault.
A salsa social will take place at 7 p.m. All funds will go toward Alberta flood relief efforts.
The festival ends with the Summer Music Showcase. Headliner Drew Gregory will take the pavilion stage at 9 p.m., followed by fireworks on the water.
