HISTORIC CALGARY WEEK BEGINS

-

Stampede is over but people’s fascination with all things western is a constant in this city and southern Alberta for that matter.

One of the events on Friday, the opening day of Historic Calgary Week, provides a look into days gone by while celebrating some well-known city art.

A Sculpting Experience runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Studio West Bronze Foundry and Art Gallery in Cochrane. Visitors can see the intricate stages of the lost-art process of casting bronze sculptures. You’ll be able to see new works in progress and the clay models used to make some of Canada’s best-known statues.

Don and Shirley Begg have created massive bronzes including the Colonel Macleod equestrian statue at Fort Calgary and the Fallen Four memorial in Mayerthorpe, Alta., which honours four slain RCMP officers.

As part of Friday’s Historic Calgary Week events, A Sculpting Experience will be offered. Meet at 205 2nd Ave. S.E. in Cochrane (corner of Bow Street and 2nd Ave. S.E.) Other events Friday, July 26:
