Kidman happier now than when she was married to Cruise

‘Fantasy life’ was better than reality of 11-year marriage

Ten years after one-time Hollywood golden couple Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman called it quits, the Oscar-winning actress said she’s delighted the marriage ended.

The 46-year-old star told an Australian newspaper she never felt at home or comfortable during her 11-year marriage to the Top Gun star. The pair split in 2001 amid rumours she was concerned about the influence of Scientology on their lives.

Kidman told the Border Mail her “fantasy life” was richer — and better — than the realities of her marriage to Cruise.

“(I’m) happy in the sense that I have my girls and my husband and I have a very, very strong real life to counter-balance my fantasy life now,” she said of her marriage to country heartthrob Keith Urban. “My fantasy life used to outweigh that more and now I’ve kind of balanced it, which is a lot healthier.”

The couple have two daughters — Sunday and Faith — but Kidman made no mention of the two children she adopted with Cruise, one of Hollywood’s most prominent adherents of the controversial Church of Scientology.

After she and Cruise called it quits, she became estranged from the older children and has only recently begun repairing the relationship with them.

The Border Mail reported that Kidman’s publicist tried to put an end to questions concerning Cruise but the affable actress continued, telling the paper: “I smile now!”
