Hillsborough 2 model tweaks popular design
Sometimes, in a house full of people, it’s wonderful to close your door and enjoy a little privacy.
The retreat in the Hillsborough 2 show home by Jager Homes offers just that in the master bedroom. Two steps up from the main bedroom, a spacious alcove with windows on three sides has space for lounge chairs.
The Hillsborough 2 is an adaptation of the popular Hillsborough floor plan and was specifically designed for the wider lots in the final two phases of Rainbow Falls, a community in Chestermere by Truman Development.
The master bedroom, itself, is a generous space with room for a king-sized bed, large dresser and plenty of room to move around.
Through an archway, the master ensuite has a double vanity with tasteful cream cabinets and drawers with large brushed stainless steel handles. The browns marbling the large ceramic tile floor keep the space at once both snug and elegant.
The large corner tub with tile surround has room for two to enjoy a hot soak. The shower, with a glass wall and door, features an attractive tile pattern detail alongside the extension of the floor tiles on the shower surround.
In the corner of the ensuite is access to the walk-in closet, which features a window for natural light.
The master bedroom exits onto a spacious landing, with the two large secondary bedrooms to the right, and the main threepiece bathroom and open-tobelow stairs to the main floor. Straight ahead, through an archway, is the bonus room, a great space for the family to gather for movies.
Next to the bonus room is the laundry room, with plenty of space to move baskets around, along with shelves and cabinets for storing laundry-related items. It has a window for natural light, which makes the task of ironing easier on the eyes.
Moving downstairs to the main level, the front foyer from the covered front porch has a large closet to store outerwear.
The front foyer, with its view primarily of the stairs to the second floor, offers privacy to the rest of the main open-concept living space.
From the foyer, stepping into the home proper, a large den with french doors is to the left. It also has a window that looks onto the front porch.
A short hallway to the left offers access to a broom closet, a half-bathroom and the mud room with its four built-in lockers and a closet.
From the mud room, there is a door to the triple-car garage, as well as into the walk-through pantry to the kitchen.
Around the corner from the stairs, the great room is to the right. It features a wall of windows overlooking the back deck, as well as two tall windows on either side of the gas fireplace.
The fireplace has an attractive surround made from long strips of tile in various shades from cream to dark brown, tied together with a dark wood mantel.
The main floor features wideplank engineered hardwood floors finished with a farm- house-style texture that’s pleasing to bare feet.
The kitchen features a large central island with a grand slab of dark glossy granite and dark wood cabinetry. With an extended ledge, there is room for two at one end, conveniently as it happens, next to the wine refrigerator.
Light-coloured cabinets around the perimeter of the kitchen balance the visual weight of the room. These five-panel cabinets, with large brushed stainless steel handles, have a simple angled trim at the top.
A corner sink with two windows lighting up the double undermount stainless steel sink makes for a pleasant place to spend time on washing up. The backsplash mirrors the theme of the fireplace surround.
The dining nook, already ensconced in windows and a glass door on three sides, gains a feeling of further intimacy from the lowered bulkhead ringing the ceiling.
