Library plans open new chapter for Calgary readers

Re: “Writer’s wish list for a new library,” Stephen Hunt, Opinion, Dec. 26.

I was delighted to read Stephen Hunt’s wish list for the new central library as it reflects many of the same aspirations we have heard from thousands of Calgarians, through community engagement.

In 2012 alone, over 16,500 Calgarians shared their dreams for a new central library. Calgarians are consistent in the message that the library should be a beautiful, light-filled space, accessible for everyone, a destination and a source of civic pride, a collaborative and creative space of learning, knowledge and civic discourse.

We are confident that with the winning design team of Snøhetta and DIALOG, Calgarians will receive all of this and more. Throughout the life of the project, we will continue to engage citizens and welcome input and support from all ages.
