High-five for Turski

ASPEN, COLO. — Canada’s Kaya Turski, 25, had one final chance to test her surgically repaired knee in competitio­n before the Sochi Olympics, and she won a gold medal while doing so. The Montreal native captured her fifth Winter X Games gold medal in women’s ski slopestyle Sunday.

Turski scored 91.33 on her second run to cruise to first place.

American Maggie Voisin took silver with 90.00 points and Kim Lamarre of Quebec City earned bronze with a best score of 85.00.

On Saturday, Regina’s Mark McMorris took home a silver medal and a fractured rib from slopestyle event. McMorris caught his snowboard on the lip of a rail and went sliding down the bar before landing hard on the snow on his third and final run of the day. McMorris, the gold-medal favourite heading into Sochi, said in a statement that despite the injury, he still has his sights set on Russia.
