Leafs sign 3 forwards to one-year deals

-

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed forwards Mike Santorelli, Petri Kontiola and Troy Bodie to oneyear contracts on Thursday.

Santorelli spent last season with the Vancouver Canucks.

Coupled with Tuesday’s signing of Leo Komarov, the Leafs retooled at forward after letting Mason Raymond, Dave Bolland and Jay McClement leave in free agency. Komarov returned to Toronto after a year in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League.

Kontiola could be the Leafs’ No. 3 centre. Santorelli could also fill that role or replace McClement on the fourth line. In other NHL moves Thursday: The Arizona Coyotes have named former Buffalo Sabres general manager Darcy Regier as senior vicepresident and assistant general manager. He replaces Brad Treliving, who became the Flames’ general manager in April. Regier spent 17 years as Buffalo’s general manager.

The Carolina Hurricanes have brought back Tim Gleason, signing the free agent defenceman to a one-year, $1.2-million contract. Carolina traded the 31-year-old defenceman to Toronto on Jan. 1 for John-Michael Liles and a prospect. The Leafs bought out Gleason’s contract this week, making him a free agent.

The Buffalo Sabres signed free- agent defenceman Tyson Strachan to a one-year contract. The 29-yearold had two assists in 18 games with Washington last season.

The New York Rangers agreed to terms with free-agent forward Nick Tarnasky. The 29-year-old centre had 13 goals, nine assists and 144 penalty minutes in a career-high 76 games last season for Montreal’s Hamilton affiliate in the American Hockey League.
