Pickup driver killed in crash with big rig

One man was killed and another was sent to hospital Wednesday afternoon in a collision between a pickup truck and a semi in southern Alberta.

Lethbridge RCMP say the pickup truck was heading south on Highway 845 south of Highway 512 near Coaldale at around 3:20 p.m. when it entered the northbound lanes and ended up in the path of an oncoming semi.

The man behind the wheel of the pickup had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken by ambulance to hospital in Lethbridge, along with his passenger. He later died.

His name has not been released as family is being notified.

The driver of the semi was not hurt.

A portion of Highway 845 was closed for several hours following the collision. The cause of the crash is still under investigat­ion.
