5 KEY MATCHUPS

-

1. Calgary RB Matt Walter vs. Edmonton LB Rennie Curran: The Eskimos are making no secret of their intent to throw everything at QB Bo Levi Mitchell given the fact Jon Cornish is out. While relatively young and unproven, Walter (25) is no slouch himself and will look to make Edmonton pay for any lack of respect (perceived or otherwise.)

2. Calgary DE Charleston Hughes vs. Edmonton LT Tony Washington: Hughes, by now, is no doubt sick over the constant media fawning over the strength of the Esks D-line. With something to prove (and a game to help win), Hughes will no doubt test Washington, his former teammate, in an effort to attack QB Mike Reilly.

3. Calgary OC Dave Dickenson vs. Edmonton head coach Chris Jones: OK. So they’re not playing. But the game within the game pits one of the best offensive minds in the league in Dickenson against one of the top defensive minds in Jones.

4. Calgary DB Brandon Smith vs. Edmonton SB Fred Stamps: Familiar foes Smith and Stamps have been scrapping for what seems like forever in the Battle of Alberta. Quietly, without any chest-thumping, Smith is one of the best in the business and Stamps is destined to one day join the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

5. Calgary RT Dan Federkeil vs. Edmonton DE Odell Willis: Federkeil, the one-time Super Bowl champion with the Indianapolis Colts, might want to purchase earplugs before reporting to Commonwealth Stadium. Willis will no doubt jaw all night long and give the Stamps RT a handful.
