Team Alberta women finish second

Team Alberta finished a distant second to the Ontario powerhouse led by phenom Brooke Henderson as the interprovi­ncial championsh­ip wrapped up at the Canadian women’s amateur golf championsh­ip on Wednesday.

Calgarians Jaclyn Lee and Jennifer Ha, joined by Medicine Hat’s Becky Martin, finished 15 strokes back of Henderson, Brittany Marchand and Augusta James at Woodstock, Ont.

Lee, who holds both the Alberta Ladies and Alberta Junior Ladies trophies, has posted rounds of 73 and 71 at Craigowan Oxford Golf and Country Club and is tied for 15th at +2 for the tourney, seven strokes behind Henderson, who leads by a shot over James and American Liz Breed. Ha sits tied for 20th at +3 after rounds of 71 and 74, while local Grace Howie (T64: 74-78) also made the tworound cut.

Meanwhile, at the prestigiou­s Pacific Coast Amateur, Calgary’s Evan Holmes has moved up into a tie for 33rd after shooting 68 in Wednesday’s second round, but is 11 shots behind leader Lorens Chan of Hawaii with one round remaining. Sang Gyun Lee is tied for 61st, while Jesse Galvon is tied for 74th.

On the senior circuit, Kim Carrington of Willow Park GC is the top Calgarian after Round 1 of the Alberta senior ladies championsh­ip in Medicine Hat, her round of 79 putting her in fifth. Cheryl Newman (80) and Diane Williams (81) of Canyon Meadows are also within striking distance of B.C.based leader Karen Kloske, who fired a 76.

And Howard Broun of Earl Grey captured the Calgary Golf Associatio­n’s City senior’s title by three shots over Harvest Hills’ Robert Genoway with a 2-under 69 at Lynx Ridge on Tuesday.
