A new multi-family development by award-winning builder Avi Urban is now part of the landscape in Currie Barracks, a community on the city’s southwest side.

Earlier this month, shovels turned for a townhome complex dubbed Juno at Currie Barracks.

These townhomes start from the low $600,000s. Currie Barracks is the third and last Canadian Forces Base Calgary site under redevelopment by Canada Lands Co.

Juno follows two other multi-family developments by the company at Currie Barracks, including the Victoria Cross Townhomes and The Terraces.

“It is always a compliment when your product is well accepted and the reception for Juno has been fantastic,” says Avi Urban president Charron Ungar.

“With our groundbreaking we now start the hard work of delivering on our vision for the development and over the next few months we will see the intended form come to life.

“It’s a very exciting time both to see Juno take shape and join in the growing community that the Canada Lands Company is nurturing at Currie Barracks.”

Earlier this month, Homes by Avi Group of Companies, which includes Avi Urban, was named Multi-Family Builder of the Year at the Alberta Awards of Excellence in Housing. Juno is one of three new projects by Avi Urban.

The others are Willow at Sherwood in northwest Calgary and Canoe at Auburn Bay in the southeast.

One of the buyers at Juno is former NHL star Charlie Simmer and his wife Jody.

The couple bought a 1,503-square-foot model with two bedrooms. Townhomes at Juno come in two- and three-bedroom options that range from 1,280 to 1,520 square feet.

Charlie played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins and Los Angeles Kings.

“We are looking forward to moving into our Avi Urban townhouse at Currie Barracks and enjoying a great taste of inner-city living in a new exciting upscale community,” says Charlie, in a news release.
