Expo opens new doors to students and families
For families thinking about putting their children in a private school, or those looking to re-examine their options, there are often more questions than answers.
How do I know I’m choosing the right school? How to I register? Can I afford it?
The good news is Our Kids Media is bringing back the Calgary Private School Expo to the city Sept. 28.
Whether you’re looking for a school now, or exploring options for the future, the expo is a must for every parent and student.
“I am so happy I came here,” raves Elina Mer, mother of two-year-old daughter and a past expo attendee.
“The expo really opened my eyes about the variety of schools available. I had a really hard time finding information on my own. Being able to ask schools specific questions and talking with students was illuminating.”
The largest event of its kind, the expo will provide parents and students with the opportunity to speak with school representatives and their current students from across Canada.
Boys and girls from elementary, middle and secondary schools in Edmonton, Calgary, British Columbia, Ontario, Saskatchewan and beyond will be on hand.
Whether you live in north or south Calgary, Edmonton, Medicine Hat, Red Deer, or Okotoks, there are private school education experts and school representatives to speak with—all in one day and in one location.
No matter what type of school you’re interested in, the Private School Expo intends to provide parents and students with as many resources as possible through information seminars and personal meetings with students and representatives.
Last year’s events in other cities across Canada featured live blog chats, expert panel question-and-answer sessions and invited parents and students to join in the conversation on all things school, both online and in person.
This year, parents and students are again welcome to participate in in-depth conversations and incredible learning experiences.
According to the study Comparing Public, Private and Market Schools: The International Experience, the private sector typically outperforms the public sector, and students in private schools often have higher reading achievement than those in public schools, even after controlling for other variables.
“What we were buying was an insurance policy in the form of training,” Rowena says of the decision to send her three children to private schools.
“It was a relief when the boys came back form university and told us what they encountered was no more difficult than anything they tackle at their all-boys private school.”
The Calgary Private School Expo will take place Sept. 28, noon to 4 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency Calgary on 700 Centre St. S.E.
