HUNTER HOUSE PROVIDES ROOM TO SETTLE INTO
One unit on offer a finalist in SAM Best Town Home category
Newlyweds Dan Vincent and Shayley Jestin-Vincent didn’t have a move from monthly rent to mortgage payments on their to-do list for at least another year. But after the couple spent a Saturday afternoon exploring the sales centre and show homes at a nearby townhome and stacked bungalow development, their timetable changed.
Vincent and Jestin-Vincent had been renting in Silverado and quickly became fans of the southwest Calgary community. Around the corner, they found Hunter House by StreetSide Developments.
“We loved Silverado, so we decided to go for it,” says Jestin-Vincent, admitting the move to buy their first home was a “spur of the moment decision.”
Hunter House is a 92-unit development on Silverado Plains Park. Its stacked bungalows start from the low $500,000s and the townhomes started from the low $400,000s. Both prices include GST. One of the units offered at Hunter House is a finalist in this year’s Canadian Home Builders’ Association Calgary region SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards competition in the category for Best Town Homes $360,000s and over.
Stacked bungalows range from 1,406 to 1,670 square feet while townhomes measure 1,486 to 1,509 square feet.
“Our buyers here, even our younger buyers, I think they are looking for something that they are going to be staying in for typically a longer period of time than a lot of other smaller product,” says area manager Karen Payne.
Vincent and Jestin-Vincent went with the development’s A2 floor plan, which is a 1,486-square-foot townhome featuring a two-car garage.
“That was an easy sell,” says Jestin-Vincent of the garage’s appeal. “Sometimes you can get a doublecar garage but it’s tandem — we were really happy with a side-byside garage.”
She adds, having a driveway with the garage was another plus.
For Jestin-Vincent, it meant more elbow room between the units.
“It makes everything just a little bit more open so the townhouse behind us isn’t blocking the light to the bottom floors,” she adds. “Plus, there’s extra parking for your guests so that was really nice for us, too.”
The couple’s consideration of guests didn’t end there. Vincent and Jestin-Vincent like to host and wanted the main level of their floor plan to fit those needs.
With their Hunter House townhome, their dinner parties have the space they need, says JestinVincent.
“There are no walls except for the four surrounding,” JestinVincent notes. “Having that nice open space, everything flows really well through there. We love that.”
Along with space, the townhome gets a steady dose sunshine. JestinVincent says the windows in their home are large.
“I was worried, because we’re not an outside unit that without having windows on the side of the house that it would be darker inside — but it’s surprisingly bright,” adds Jestin-Vincent.
Townhomes at Hunter House have laminate flooring in the great room and kitchen. These kitchens boast a full-height backsplash, granite or quartz counters and stainless steel appliances. The cabinets have 42-inch uppers with soft-close doors and come in four options including lacquered and stained finishes.
Vincent and Jestin-Vincent both work for the City of Calgary at an office downtown. The morning commute works out to about a 25 to 30 minute drive, says JestinVincent, adding “it’s not bad.” She says during low-traffic parts of the day, downtown to Silverado is about 20 minutes.
But picking Silverado was more than about the drive to work. Jestin-Vincent says it’s familyfriendly.
“It’s walking distance to Shawnessy where you have the Walmart and the movie theatre and all-that and it’s maybe a 20 minute walk, if that,” says Jestin-Vincent. “Plus, you’ve got everything there. You’ve got the doctor, dentist, hair dresser, grocery store. A ton of stuff right there.”
The area has been a draw for buyers, says Payne, adding the proximity to shops and services is important.
“There’s a lot of green space, walking paths, parks right around us and we are a stone’s throw from Spruce Meadows,” says Payne.
