CHARITY CLASSIC HOPING TO REACH RECORD- BREAKING $ 4M
The Shaw Charity Classic has raised $ 4.67 million for youth- based charities in its first two years as part of golf’s Champions Tour.
This year, tournament organizers hope to break what already were Champions Tour charity records by gathering $ 4 million during the Aug. 5- 9 event at the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club.
Six Calgary- based charities will share the $ 1 million promised by SCC title sponsor Shaw Communications. The goal is for the other $ 3 million to be raised through the new Birdies For Kids program presented by AltaLink.
That program encourages supporters of more than 70 charities across the province to donate a flat amount, or a per- birdie amount based on the number of birdies ( a 1 under par score on any hole) recorded by all the players at the Classic.
Charities will receive all money donated to them, plus matching funds of up to 50 per cent. For more information and the list of charities go to: shawcharityclassic.com/ birdies- for- kids. php
The six charities that will receive Shaw Charity Classic’s $ 1 million in committed funds include: Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre
